Start with safe working, pipework processes and the science behind water and heat. Then apply that knowledge to cold water, hot water, heating and drainage. Match your revision to the unit list your college or assessor has given you: a Level 2 course name alone does not identify every assessment you will take.
Choose one topic for a short session. Read its note, close it and sketch the system or explain the rule from memory. Answer a few questions, then read each explanation, including the ones you got right by guessing. Write down the reason for each mistake: a missing fact, a wrong unit, a misread diagram or an unsafe next step.
On your next visit, revisit those mistakes before changing topics. Include every unit in your plan; repeatedly scoring well on cold water does not check your drainage knowledge. Start with the free cold-water questions or central-heating questions, then use the module cards above to fill gaps.
Use the Level 2 modules to build your understanding of everyday systems. Our Level 3 modules add design and diagnosis: sizing, heat loss, storage and fuel choices. For example, identifying a radiator valve is different from explaining whether the radiator can meet a room’s heat demand at a lower water temperature. The radiator sizing calculator lets you work through that second question. Your qualification handbook decides which topics and practical assessments your route requires.
These resources support the plumbing theory used across qualification routes. Our modules group subjects by system; they are not awarding-body unit numbers. Use the 6189 qualification guide to plan knowledge and workplace evidence separately. An NVQ can itself be called a Diploma: the Diploma versus NVQ guide explains why the full qualification title matters. Online quiz results do not replace observed practical work or a workplace portfolio.
The free practice sets contain 25 questions each in Cold Water Systems, Central Heating and Field Diagnostics. Guides, calculators and the notes marked free are also available without payment. Premium unlocks the full question bank, Premium notes and timed mock assessments. The Free and Premium labels show the access for each resource.
