Free G3 unvented hot water questions

DrillUnvented Hot Water (G3)

An unvented-cylinder tundish is inside a cupboard. Why must it remain readily visible and unobstructed?

PR-KB-G3-011Approved Document G Section G3: Safety Devices & Overheat Protection

From a dripping tundish to the right next check

Trace the safety discharge, identify the controls and decide what the evidence supports. The set moves from recognising components to assessing pipe routes, interpreting faults and checking the handover after installation.

  • Tundishes, D1 and D2 discharge routes
  • Temperature controls and independent protection
  • Expansion provision and servicing
  • Supply checks, scald protection and handover

Follow the discharge route

Distinguish the pipe before the tundish from the gravity route after it. Check each part of a proposed route: visibility, material, sizing, fall and termination. A sound answer explains why the complete arrangement matters.

Revise D1 and D2 pipework

Separate the safety controls

Identify normal temperature control, independent overheat protection and relief devices. A symptom such as a tripped cut-out calls for investigation; it does not identify the failed component by itself.

Review the protection layers

Check the expansion provision

Compare an external vessel with a manufacturer-designed internal air gap. Follow the model’s servicing procedure and distinguish a pre-charge check from a pressure reading taken while the water side is pressurised.

Understand expansion and pre-charge

Explain the decision before revealing the answer

Follow the water path in the diagram and separate what you can see from what still needs testing. For a discharge-sizing question, include the stated material and bend allowances. Read the explanation after each answer, then use the linked notes to revisit anything uncertain.

Practise G3 questions in a timed session

Use the free set in a timed practice test and review your answers at the end. These revision questions support learning; completing them does not award G3 certification or establish practical competence.

The free test offers 5, 10 or 25 questions from this same set, with an optional practice timer. In Test mode, answers and explanations appear after you finish. Repeated tests reuse this bank, so a higher score can reflect familiarity.

About G3 practice

Can I try the G3 questions without an account?

Yes. All 25 questions include answer feedback and explanations without an account or payment. You can also use the same set in normal practice, then create an account to save your progress.

Does the set cover tundishes and discharge pipework?

Yes. It includes visibility at the tundish, D1 and D2, copper sizing, bend allowances and different termination arrangements. The numerical guidance questions identify their scope, including England where Approved Document G is used.

Does completing this test give me a G3 qualification?

No. This is revision practice. Training, practical assessment, evidence of competence and the notification route for installation work are separate matters.

What can I practise after the free set?

Premium opens the remaining G3 questions, alongside the other paid modules and review tools. Use your free-set answers to identify the controls, discharge or servicing topics you want to revisit first.

What is free, and what does Premium add?

All 25 questions on this page are free, with no account or card required. They are selected from the maintained G3 unvented hot water question bank. Premium opens the full bank of 134 questions, more modules and Weak-Spot Review.

A free account saves the answers you give while signed in and lets you continue across devices. Without an account, this browser can remember your place for 30 days; it does not transfer earlier guest answers into an account. Signing up keeps the same free question allowance.
